Insulin Detemir – still there

We highlighted in April that Insulin Detemir will be discontinued at the end of Dec 26. In April, Combine was reporting the use of 1.27 million DDDs across Primary and Secondary Care which has reduced by one third to 870,000 DDDs in the latest July data. This rate of reduction looks to be falling short of a fully managed exit by December 2026.
There is a wide variation across ICBs and practices in their progress to migrate patients to other insulins. Our forecasts, based on current progress, are as follows (dividing these DDD figures by 30 will provide an approximation of patient numbers)
