Insulin Detemir – when it’s gone, it’s gone.
Posted in Announcement, Integrated Care, News
In June 2025 DHSC issued a Medicine Supply Notification regarding the discontinuation of Levemir® Insulin. At that point there were nearly 1.9 million defined daily doses (DDDs) of Insulin Detemir supplied across Primary and Secondary Care each month. Stock is expected to be discontinued by the end of 2026.
The latest NHS wide (Primary and Secondary Care) data in Combine for January 26 shows that the use of Insulin Detemir has fallen to just over 1.4M DDDs; a drop of 0.5M DDDs. This rate of decline is in the right direction, but not yet showing a managed process to reduce usage to zero by the end of 2026, when supplies will stop.
