Drug budget tracking is an urgent priority
The predicted NHS funding shortfall after 2011 makes drug budget tracking an urgent priority, according to Rx-info’s Business Manager, Jonathan Kerr says that at a moment when two influential think tanks are predicting tough times ahead, health care trusts need to act quickly.
“Medicines are the second biggest cost to a hospital,” said Jonathan Kerr, “so there are potentially big budgetary savings to be made in this area with careful management. Health trusts need to consider how they can use their pharmacist's clinical skills to help improve patient care and manage medication costs.
“The ReportPlus and HPAS programs give hospitals a quick overview, plus clinical and financial statistics as well as providing those all-important projections. Acting now could save deep and painful financial cuts at a later date.”
